10 Peacemakers Who Bring Beauty Into Our World:

1. Black Elk – “And I saw that the sacred hoop of my people was one of many hoops that made one circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one mother and one father.”

3. Rev. John Dear, S.J. – “God of light, lead us back from the brink of nuclear destruction, guide us through the dark night of this culture of war into the new light of your peace. Give us your gift of peace that we might live in peace with you and one another and all people everywhere . . . that there will be no more wars, no more nuclear weapons, no more poverty, no more tears, no more violence, no more death.”

4. Dorothy Day – “The greatest challenge of the day is: how to bring about a revolution of the heart.”

5. William Stafford – “If you don’t know the kind of person I am/and I don’t know the kind of person you are/a pattern that others made may prevail in the world/and following the wrong god home we may miss our star.”

6. A.J. Muste – “There is no way to peace, peace is the way.”
