Abundant Mind – Day 15

10 of Life’s Beauties:

1. Wind – I love your sound, your energy, your movement, your genius.

2. Chocolate – Especially the kind with a teeny bit of sea salt.

3. Compost – Turning something perceived as stinky and nasty into something beautiful.

4. Running Water – There are people in this world who have to walk miles to collect water for themselves and their families and they can only pray that the water is clean. I only have to turn on one of five faucets. All with cold and hot water options.

5. Clouds – I see you in everything. Every flower, every bag of tea, every taste of food.

6. The Sound of Rain on my Roof – You help me sleep at night. Again and again.

7. Power Outages – Any excuse for candlelight and cuddling up under the blankets.

8. St. Valentine – for risking his life for love. Hooray for active non-violence!

9. Thunder – I love you and I wish you would visit tonight. That sweet rolling sound reminds me that I am part of this Earth. Connected.

10. Community (I have many, but tonight this is especially for the Beautiful Compost Women) – For keeping me grounded and giving me a place to come home to.

Our True Heritage
by Thich Nhat Hanh
(from his book Together We are One: Honoring Our Diversity, Celebrating Our Connection)

The cosmos is filled with precious gems.
I want to offer a handful of them to you this morning.
Each moment you are alive is a gem,
shining through and containing earth and sky,
water and clouds.

It needs you to breathe gently
for the miracles to be displayed.
Suddenly you hear the birds singing,
the pines chanting,
see the flowers blooming,
the blue sky,
the white clouds,
the smile and the marvelous look
of your beloved.

You, the richest person on Earth,
who have been going around begging for a living,
stop being the destitute child.
Come back and claim your heritage.
We should enjoy our happiness
and offer it to everyone.
Cherish this very moment.
Let go of the stream of distress
and embrace life fully in your arms.
